Eid is a wonderful time for fashion

Business & Finance Club - Dubai: The clock is ticking and Eid is just around the corner.

It's a time when all women in the region are looking for unique fashion in order to look their best for the occasion.

We bring you the latest designs from top Emirati designers, which have earned both international recognition and admiration.

Mona Al Mansouri is a renowned designer and her designs are regularly seen on shaikhas, wives of ambassadors and local TV presenters.

Her collection is also sold in Switzerland and Italy.

Regarding her new Eid collection she says: "Eid is a joyous occasion and has to be received with cheerful colours and well-made outfits. Therefore, I came up with a limited edition collection comprised of eight gowns all of which have a unique style and are inspired by UAE tradition."

The founder of the Abu Dhabi-based Al Mansouri fashion house adds: "My Eid collection is almost completely made of pure silk and is decorated with Swarovski crystals. The style is simple, elegant and comfortable and I used bright colours such as fuchsia and turquoise, which have a marvellous harmony with the season."

The recipient of international fashion awards said: "Keep tradition alive."

Designer sisters Reem and Hind Beljafla are the creators of the famous DAS boutique in Dubai.

Their trendy abaya designs have brought them international recognition.

Their collection is available at Harrods in London.

"We create abayas that are modern and stylish, using fabrics that are lightweight and drape well, while cutting and tailoring them to flatter and fall beautifully. Our abayas are worn loose and provide cover, but they've been updated to allow a woman to experiment with different styles and shapes that suit her," says Hind.

"Our Eid collection is contemporary. It's a fusion of modern, symmetrical cuts and traditional baroque patterns which have a hint of Arabian nights. You can see how the bead work is intricately aligned vertically and horizontally to come up with a rich yet solid pattern that compliments the colour of the fabric and the flow of the material.

"This collection embodies the new Arabian woman, who keeps up with fast-paced modernity, but somehow maintains her rich culture and self-respect. It's the perfect combination of modernity and tradition,

"The materials consist of fine stretch jersey, two-tone [black-silver] sequined fabric imported from London, customised black lace, embossed gold-blue-turquoise fabric and Japanese glass beads. As for colours: black, gold, turquoise, and midnight blue were used.

For the accessories, we suggest sticking to the basics in gold or silver jewellery with gems, and the colours should compliment the abaya. The H-Stern dangling gold earrings would be the perfect match for this Eid collection."

Lamya Abedin's abaya collection is widely worn by different nationalities including Americans, French, Iranians, Moroccans, and Japanese.

So popular is she is Japan that she has been approached to do a fashion show in Tokyo.

For Eid she is launching "Al Sultan collection" which comprises 50 unique pieces that showcase the rich heritage of the Ottoman era.

One of a kind

She told Gulf News: "Since Eid is a cultural and significant event in our lives, we women like to shop for the most stunning outfits and accessories we can find, to look unique on the day. I thought of the Ottoman Empire, the biggest and longest lasting empires in history. A lot of rich heritage, culture, techniques and architecture were used and extended from the Balkans to their neighbouring countries as a result."
