Dubai Ladies Club announces winners of Oriental Red Carpet Emerging Fashion Designer Contest 2010

Business & Finance Club - Dubai : Dubai Ladies Club has announced the winners of the Oriental Red Carpet Emerging Fashion Designer Contest 2010. The four winners will showcase their mini-collections at the third annual Oriental Red Carpet Fashion Show on 30 September, 2010 at Dubai Ladies Club.

At a private Judging Ceremony held last week, Hessa Al Falasi (winner of Jalabiyas category), Hanadi Badu (winner of Abayas category), Moza Al Mazrou (winner of Ready-to-wear category) and Halima Al Sayegh (winner of Jewellery category) were selected, by a group of eminent panellists, from among 15 shortlisted Emirati fashion designers in four categories – Jalabiyas, Abayas, Ready-to-Wear and Jewellery.

This year's selection committee included Mirvat Ghanem, Editor of L'Officiel Middle East magazine, Amal Murad, Abaya Fashion Designer, Carla Zaroubi Daaboul, of Saks Fifth Avenue and Nada Al Zarouni, Fashion Editor of Emarat Al Youm.

On Monday, 30th August, the jury convened at Dubai Ladies Club where the 15 finalists were given a chance to show their designs and sketches to the panel. Each contestant spent fifteen minutes with the panel to discuss her designs, background and future plans. The judges made their decision based on creativity, marketability, workmanship, fabric suitability and overall appeal.

Following the success of the inaugural launch of Oriental Red Carpet Fashion Show in 2008, the competition returns once again - for its third edition - as a pioneering campaign aimed at promoting young emerging designers and advancing their careers through extensive media exposure and introductions to key local & international clientele.

Eman Al Mansoori, Events Manager of Dubai Ladies Club commented: "Our judges met contestants who were poised and who demonstrated professionalism in their approach. They enjoyed hearing about the resourcefulness and creativity that was exhibited during their design process. Our objective in hosting and organizing this competition is to encourage young Emirati female entrepreneurs and designers to come forward and unveil their latest designs to an elite audience and clientele. Every year, we aim to bring to the forth the works and talent of new and promising Emirati designers."

The Oriental Red Carpet Fashion Show has been a launch pad for a number of distinguished local fashion designers such as Mariam Al Mazrou, Fatima Al Hashimi, Athija Al Mazroui, Reem Beljafla, Fatima Al Qassimi and Fatima Al Tunaiji, who have gone on to accomplish even greater things.

Focussing on Emirati women's overall development, Dubai Ladies Club has consistently promoted Emirati talents through a number of educational and career-oriented professional programmes to open avenues for women to channelize their strengths and contribute effectively to the social and economic progress of the UAE.
